With 106 stores around the USA, it would be silly of us to wonder if Wegmans accepts EBT as a form of payment. So does it?
The answer is yes, Wegmans accepts EBT in every single store. Each state has different rules about what types of items can and cannot be purchased using EBT, but it usually doesn’t make much of a difference.

How to Use EBT at Wegmans: A Short Guide
Using an EBT card at Wegmans, or any grocery store for that matter is a fairly simple process. We’ve put together a short guide to show you how to do it.
Step #1: Scan your items.
First, the cashier will need to scan each item. Once this is done, you will be asked how you would like to pay.
Step 2: Place your card in the reader
Once your card is safely inserted into the reader, the cashier may ask if you need cash back. This can be done using EBT and is something we will discuss further down the article (so keep reading!).
Step 3: Enter your PIN.
If you are happy with the total amount, you need to enter your four-digit pin number. Your PIN number is provided when you activate your EBT card. If you’ve forgotten your PIN, you’ll need to find an alternative payment method.
Can I use EBT at Wegmans Online?
Yes, you can use EBT to pay for items purchased online. However, Wegmans charges a $3.99 delivery fee that you must pay with another debit or credit card because EBT does not cover it.
To pay for items online using EBT you need to do the following:
- Log in or create an account
- Add items to your basket
- Locate the ‘Payments’ section
- Add your EBT card details
It’s really that simple!
What Can I Purchase With An EBT Card At Wegmans?
You should be asking what can’t you purchase with an EBT card. Take a look at our list below of SNAP-eligible items.
- Red Meat
- Bread and cereal
- Snacks (potato chips, nuts, etc)
- Soft drinks
- Dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese)
- Energy drinks (Red Bull, Monster, etc)
- Desserts (cakes, ice cream, cookies, etc)
So what items are deemed non-eligible under the SNAP policy?
- Tobacco products
- Health supplements
- Pet food
- Cleaning supplies
- Food and drinks that are hot at the point of sale
Why Are Certain Items Prohibited?
SNAP benefits were created to give low-income families access to nutritious and healthy foods. If EBT could be used to purchase harmful or unnecessary items, it would defeat the purpose of the program. It also helps prevent fraud and theft of EBT cards, although some people still try to abuse the system.
Can I use EBT at Wegmans Self Checkout?
Self-checkout is a relatively new system at Wegmans, so not all stores have it. At this time, we are not sure if payment can be made using EBT at self-checkout, so you may want to ask a staff member. If not, you can always scan your items at a regular cash register.
Can I use EBT to pay for curbside pickup items?
Yes, EBT can be used as a valid payment method for curbside pickup from Wegmans. However, you must pay in-store rather than wait for a team member to come to your car before collecting your pickup.
Curbside pickup at Wegmans is free, however, the minimum purchase is $10.
What if my EBT funds don’t cover the cost of my order?
If you don’t have enough money on your EBT card to cover your items, you’ll need to find an alternative payment method. Here is a list of payment options that can be used at Wegmans.
- American Express
- Apple Pay
What If My EBT Card Is Damaged?
Don’t worry, the cashier can manually enter your card details if your EBT card is damaged. You’ll still need to enter your four-digit PIN number, but you won’t need to insert your card into the reader.
The cardholder must be present with the card to complete the transaction. Therefore, you will not be able to purchase items with a picture of the vehicle, it must be physically available.
Can I get a cash refund if I used EBT to pay?
No, you cannot get a cash refund if you return an item purchased using EBT. The cashier will simply refund the funds to your EBT card which may take a few days to reach your account.
So, there you have it. You can use your EBT card to pay for any SNAP-eligible items at Wegmans. If you’re new to using EBT and need some help while shopping in-store, don’t hesitate to ask a Wegman team member for help.
